The Widening
Hello, and welcome to my new blog! This will be a fun, creative outlet for the little writer in me moving forward.
I’m excited to share a poem I wrote as an expressive summary of my experience becoming an ordained, gnostic minister over the last 13 months.
Writing this piece felt like a beautiful, personal rebirth here in the heart of Springtime. Enjoy!
Love,
Alison
The Widening, A Poem about Personal Gnosis
Initially timid, guarded and plain,
My heart, not quite open,
Instead playing jaded and tame.
I wondered who God was beyond every book,
So tired of translations,
But where would I find it? Where could I look?
In a time of great need I was given a guide,
A community of women,
All I needed was to open wide.
And so open I did, with great caution and care,
It’s important to be discerning,
You won’t find divine information just anywhere.
And where was it hiding?
And how did it show?
These are the most important questions to know.
I’ll tell you quite simply, clearly and true,
No gimmicks or games,
God is inside YOU.
Yes, that’s right. I said what I said.
Take a deep breath,
And hear what you’ve read.
So, amidst all the conditioning and pain,
I learned how to love me,
There was less struggle and strain.
For once you see with your very own eyes,
That you are a Child of the Universe,
A weight is lifted, there is simply no “try.”
Our beloved Creator holds us steady and strong,
No matter what we choose,
God is working through us and we always belong.
So, here is my offering
My promise and my prayer,
God is in the living and blessings are not rare.
And for all of us who still aren’t quite sure,
Thank you for your honesty,
Your journey will be most pure.
Just remember you have all that you need,
It is your very own heart, mind and body,
That holds the key.
And if ever you’d like to sit and compare notes,
I’m here for all the waves of truth,
And to help you build your boat.
With deep love and great reverence for the mystery,
Thank you for witnessing me in my knowing,
And in my humility.
